School of Food and Health

The School of Food and Health is a second-level teaching unit of Jinzhou Medical University, which was established in January 2007. There are six teaching and research offices and one teaching center for Animal Product Processing, Agricultural Product Processing and Storage Engineering, Food Infrastructure, Food Nutrition, Food Safety and Food Machinery. There are four undergraduate programs: Food Science and Engineering, Food Nutrition and Health, Food Quality and Safety and, Food Nutrition and Inspection Education, with more than 600 undergraduate students; the school grants academic master degree in Food Science and Engineering and professional master degree in Agriculture (specialized in Food Processing and Safety), with more than 50 students pursuing master’s degree.

The school currently has 35 full-time teachers, including 5 professors, 22 associate professors, 8 lecturers, 26 doctors (including who are currently studying for Ph.D.) and 9 masters. One Outstanding Teacher in Liaoning Province, one Young Backbone Teacher of Education and Scientific Research in Liaoning Province, and four have been selected into the Million Talent Project in Liaoning Province.

The school has been approved as the Modern Industrial School of Universities in Liaoning Province. The program of Food Science and Engineering together with Food Quality and Safety have been approved as provincial 1st class undergraduate demonstrative programs, undergraduate comprehensive reform programs and undergraduate engineering talent training model reform demonstrative programs. The practical teaching center has been approved as provincial experimental teaching demonstration center.

More than 30 off-campus teaching internship bases are inside and outside the province. The employment rate of graduates is more than 92% and the postgraduate admission rate is more than 50%, and 8 students have been sent to the University of Northambia in the United Kingdom for further study.

The School builds 1 Professional Meat Processing and Safety Control Innovation Center, 2 provincial postgraduate joint training demonstration bases with enterprises. It is the vice-director unit of Nuisanceless-Meat Science Branch of Society of Zootechnics and Veterinary Science in Liaoning Province and of Society of Food Science and Technology in Liaoning Province. The faculties undertook and are undertaking more than 150 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, published over 650 academic papers and over 40 national textbooks, declared more than 100 invention patents, participated in the formulation of 1 national standard for food safety, 22 enterprise standards, and 2 local standards.
